Golden Eagle Distributors Receives Local Award

Summer Send Off 2018

The Great River Tigers presented an award to Golden Eagle Distributors on July 21, 2018 at Jackson Park Golf Course in Palmyra, Mo during their Summer Send Off event.  For the last six years, Golden Eagle has generously donated beer to this event.  Mike Tower was present to accept the award.  Mike always helps Ken Disselhorst  with the cooking and has attended and supported us every year of the event.

 

Football Watch Party

On Saturday, November 3, 2018, the Great River Tigers hosted a watch party at Native Grill and Wings in Quincy, Il that began at 3pm.. Seventeen tiger fans cheered on the team.  Mizzou defeated Florida, a ranked team, 38-17.

Leaders Weekend

Sarah Bockhold and Al Kennett attended the Leaders Weekend September 20-22, 2018 in Columbia, Missouri.  The guest speaker was Coach Barry Odom who inspired everyone for the Georgia game on Saturday.. Sarah and Al had the opportunity to mingle with other chapter leaders, brainstorm ideas as to how to increase alumni engagement and membership, as well as, learn of the other activities chapters across the country are doing.  They completed the Clifton Strengths Assessment which allowed them to better understand our own strengths and hopefully leverage engagement with people whose strengths are different.

 

Mizzou Women’s Basketball vs WIU

The Mizzou Women’s basketball team played  Western Illinois girls on November 6 at 8pm at Western Hall. This game offered local residents a chance to see the Women Tigers play locally.  The girls kicked off their season with a win over the WIU girls 89-64.

 

GRT Board Meets August 28, 2018

On August 28, 2018, the Great River Tigers board members met at the Patio in Quincy, Illinois.  The following items were discussed:

  • Sarah Bockhold and Al Kennett will attend the Leadership Conference in Columbia, Mo in September
  • A football watch party on November 3 was discussed
  • Summer Send Off for next year was discussed and a tentative date set for July 20th
  • A vote was taken to retain current officers for this coming year.

2018 Summer Send Off

On July 21, 2018, the Great River Tigers Alumni Association hosted its sixth annual summer sendoff at Jackson Park Golf Course in Palmyra, Missouri..  Two hundred and twenty people were in attendance which included 46 Mizzou students.  This was the biggest attendance in our 6 years of sponsoring the event.  GRT presented a local award  to Golden Eagle Distributing in appreciation for all the help and support they have given us over the years

 

During the evening,the alumni association gave eight  $500 scholarships by luck of the draw to students who were present. These students were Cassie Hancock, Josh Arnold, Delanie Fohey, Amy Jones, Tanner Nix, Jessica Taylor, Emily Albright, and Abbey Laws.  Dr Choi gave 4 additional $500 scholarships to Shelby Epperson, Halley Carr, Rachel Meyers and Lauren Bauer.  The  association also gives away scholarships to students for academic merit.  The students who received $1000 scholarships included: Emily Dehner, Regan Ragsdale, Gavin Booth, Barley Kozlowski, all incoming freshman and Allison Pearl and Andrew Fauble, current students.  This year in total the GRT presented scholarships to 18 Mizzou students worth a total of $12,000.

Jordan Frericks, former Mizzou girls basketball player from Quincy,  and her parents attended, and Jordan spoke briefly to the crowd.

Dr. Mun Choi, who has been president of the entire University of Missouri system for two years, was the speaker. He discussed the tough situation that he came into 1.5 years ago, some of the changes that have been made, the improved relationships we now have in Jefferson City, the record % increase we have seen in enrollment for the coming fall semester and what we can expect again next year.  Then he turned to the students and challenged them to do well and stressed how important being good students would be to the rest of their life and pointed out challenges they will face.

Dr. Choi and Todd McCubbin,executive director for the University of Missouri Alumni Association and the associate vice chancellor of alumni relations for the University of Missouri,as well as GRT members helped serve the pork chop dinner to those attending.

 

 

 

 

 

 

GRT Board Meeting May 7

On May 7, 2018,  the Great River Tigers Alumni Association held a meeting at the Plaza in Quincy.  The following items were discussed:

  • Choosing our Merit Scholarships for incoming freshmen and current students
  • Submitting  of Ken Disselhorst  as our Volunteer of the Year
  • Writing congratulation notes to our area students who graduated from Mizzou that  will count as celebrate a Mizzou tradition.
  • Planning for our Summer Event on July 21st featuring Dr Choi as our speaker.

Al Kennett Attended Mizzou Legislative Appreciation Day

 

 

Al Kennett, GRT chapter board member attended Mizzou Legislative Appreciation Day April 17 at the Missouri State Capital.  This event was held by the University of Missouri to thank state members of the Missouri House and Senate for their support of Higher Education and the University of Missouri. Those attending represented the University System; University of Missouri, Columbia; Mizzou Alumni Association, and University Extension.  Al had the chance while we was there to visit with Representatives and Senators from our GRT region counties as well as several others.  A small token of our appreciation was presented to each, and they were invited to attend a reception where Tiger Stripe ice cream was served. 

 Also, they were invited to attend a new conference held Tuesday afternoon in the Capital by University System President Mun Choi where he released the results of an Economic Study that the University had done which showed that the four campus University Systems and University Extension have a $5.4 Billion impact on the State of Missouri.
