GRT Board Meeting May 7

On May 7, 2018,  the Great River Tigers Alumni Association held a meeting at the Plaza in Quincy.  The following items were discussed:

  • Choosing our Merit Scholarships for incoming freshmen and current students
  • Submitting  of Ken Disselhorst  as our Volunteer of the Year
  • Writing congratulation notes to our area students who graduated from Mizzou that  will count as celebrate a Mizzou tradition.
  • Planning for our Summer Event on July 21st featuring Dr Choi as our speaker.

Al Kennett Attended Mizzou Legislative Appreciation Day

 

 

Al Kennett, GRT chapter board member attended Mizzou Legislative Appreciation Day April 17 at the Missouri State Capital.  This event was held by the University of Missouri to thank state members of the Missouri House and Senate for their support of Higher Education and the University of Missouri. Those attending represented the University System; University of Missouri, Columbia; Mizzou Alumni Association, and University Extension.  Al had the chance while we was there to visit with Representatives and Senators from our GRT region counties as well as several others.  A small token of our appreciation was presented to each, and they were invited to attend a reception where Tiger Stripe ice cream was served. 

 Also, they were invited to attend a new conference held Tuesday afternoon in the Capital by University System President Mun Choi where he released the results of an Economic Study that the University had done which showed that the four campus University Systems and University Extension have a $5.4 Billion impact on the State of Missouri.        

Great River Tigers Participate in Giving Day

During Mizzou Giving Day April 14-15, Mizzou Alumni Association challenged the local chapters to fund raise for student scholarships. The Association would match dollars up to $2500 dollars.  The money raised would be deposited in the organization’s spendable scholarship account.  Donors logged onto their computers and donated online.  Great River Tigers raised $3100 and with the match added, the amount raised was $5600.  Great River Tigers gives out merit based scholarships in the spring and luck of the draw scholarships at the Student Send Off in July.  A big thank you to everyone that donated.

Great River Tigers Provides Lunch For Mizzou Alternate Break Group

Mizzou Alternative Breaks is a student-led program on the campus of the University of Missouri that sends groups of students across the United States and abroad over Thanksgiving, winter, spring, summer, and weekend breaks to serve people and communities of need.  A group of students  from Sigma Kappa came to Mark Twain Lake March 9-11 for a Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center Work Day that included helping with creating a bike and hiking trail.  Great River Tigers Alumni group provided a meal for them on Saturday, March 10th.  Ron Dedert, Sarah Bockhold and three children, and Al Kennett, representatives from Great River Tigers, met the group for lunch.

 

Watch Party

 

The Great River Tigers Alumni Association hosted a watch party on February 25 at the Hi-Vee on Harrison.  The Mizzou Tigers girls’ basketball team (including Quincy native Jordan Frericks)  played Texas A&M. There were many of Jordan Frericks’s relatives that attended to cheer her on.  The Frericks’s family donated a basketball that was signed by the team to be raffled off during the second half.   In all sixty people were in attendance.

 

 

GRT Board Meeting January 9th

The Great River Tigers met at the Plaza in Quincy for a board meeting.  Gunnar Johanson, our liason from the alumni association, was in attendance.

Items discussed at the meeting included:

  • Holding a watch party on February 25 at 3 pm  at the Hy-Vee on Harrison for the girls’ game against Texas A&M
  • Forming a committee to determine scholarship winners
  • Discussing the speaker for the Summer Send Off on July 27
  • Deciding to participate in Giving Day 2018

 

Texas Bowl Watch Party

 

The Great River Tigers will be hosting a Bowl Watch Party on December 27 at 8 pm at Mark Twain Brewery in Hannibal, Mo.  The brewery will feature the game on all screens WITH SOUND and they will have hosted appetizers for Mizzou fans including boneless wings in three of their house flavors; Buffalo, Sweet Chili, and Hot & Honey BBQ, and Spinach Artichoke Dip with chips. Bring your friends and cheer on the Tigers to a win against  Texas.

Football Watch Party

The Great River Tigers hosted a football watch party (Mizzou vs Georgia)  on October 14, 2017 at 6:30  in Quincy at the Hyvee Market Cafe located on Harrison Street.  Twenty-five people attended.
